Il programma nel dettaglio

After the landing in Normandy June 1944 Canadian troops liberated the coastal areas. The British forces set Brussels and the port of Antwerp free. Hitler’s final hour of truth had come. Christmas time 1944. The Battle of the Bulge was the last major Nazi offensive. Hitler hoped to split the Allied forces by launching a surprise attack. 140,000 soldiers and infantry forces were killed or captured. The very last survivors are still haunted by the memories of the Battle.

During the 100 miles drive to the battle area our guide introduces the events that lead to the battle. Our tour starts at the overwhelming Neuville-en-Condroz American Cemetery and Memorial where thousands of US-military rest. They lost their lives during the advance of the U.S. army into Germany. An hour’s drive then takes us to McAuliffe Square in Bastogne. The minuscule town is known for its significant role in the battle of the Bulge. See the bronze statue of General Anthony McAuliffe alongside an M3 Sherman Battle Tank. The General coined the famous reply "Nuts" to the German request that the Americans surrender.

We call at the famous Mardasson Memorial honoring the memory of all American soldiers wounded or killed during the Battle of the Bulge. Designed and which is designed in the shape of a five-pointed American star.

The Bastogne War Museum is also a must-see. Apart from lunch facilities the museum offers a lot of comprehensible information. The 3D videos make the visit an emotional experience. Attention is paid to the important role of the British and Canadian Battalions, who participated in the Battle. We also pay a respectful visit to one of the sober and subdued German cemeteries.

After a day full of emotions we relax at Durbuy, the most picturesque and enchanting medieval town of the Ardennes. Cozy cobbled streets, charming terraces and the unspoilt natural beauty impress! Before you return to Brussels, you should indulge yourself and taste some of the local specialties.
