Learn everything about the gaucho culture, the iconic character of the Argentinean identity. Discover these people’s lives and traditions while exploring one of the single most beautiful landscapes in Argentina.
Begin early in the morning by heading to Feria de San Telmo, an antique fair that takes place every Sunday morn. Admire the artefacts and clutter from different epochs in over 270 stands. Around you, tango shows and orchestra performances take place on the streets. Don’t forget to try the food in this vibrant multicultural atmosphere.
Travel then to Mataderos Fair, known also as the Neighbourhood of the Argentinean Gaucho. It is a meeting point for local traditions and handcrafts. Discover local foods, folkloric music and dance.
Explore an old archway of the market and the Museo Criollo de los Corrales, where you get an insight into how gauchos used to live in the pampas through their clothes and everyday tools. Other exposed items include weapons, knives, carriages, animals and paintings. After that, enjoy a hearty lunch at the fair stalls. Argentina is known throughout the world for its mouth-watering meats, empanadas and wines. You will be spoilt for choice.
Once filled up on delicious Argentine food, have a tranquil stroll through the stalls and contemplate the many crafts that they sell. Musical instruments, clothes, accessories… Finish the tour at the historical Oviedo Bar, what used to be a grocery store in times of old. After this tour, you will be well-versed in the gaucho traditions and way of life.
