Maputo, Mozambico |
Maputo Special Reserve was once known as The Elephant Reserve, and it is one of the “Pearls” that Mozambique has to offer. It was created in the 60’s and saw the animal populations decrease during the civil war. This magic place is reborn with a new strength. The animals are coming back, especially the elephants, through eco corridors between South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.
The Reserve, one of the least known places in the World, will give you an unforgettable experience with the huge Landscape variety, where the Indian Ocean marine ecosystems mix with the typical African plains and even dense forests. Our guide will pick you up early in the morning from your accommodation. A light breakfast will be served on board of our vehicle. We will cross to the South side of Maputo Bay called Catembe (by ferry). If the ferry boat has a long waiting period we will drive around the Maputo Bay towards Catembe where you will get a superb view of Maputo City.
We will carry on our trip towards the Reserve, stopping off at the small village of Salamanga, where you will have the opportunity to visit a local bread factory and a Hindu temple (optional stop). The expected time of arrival at the Reserve gates, is between 8.30am and 9am (or before).
As we drive along the Reserve, you will discover the unique aspects of the wildlife and its magnificent ecosystems filled with rich and extraordinary biomes. We will stop at some point between 12.30pm and 1pm for lunch nearby a beautiful lagoon. After lunch, we will drive towards the Reserve gates and start to head back to Maputo. We expect to arrive back at around 6pm but please be aware that delays could occur. Our guide will then drop you off back at your accommodation.
