Il programma nel dettaglio

On this tour you will visit the town of Kelso, know the original monument to William Wallace and travel to Scott View from which you can enjoy the most beautiful sight of all the Lowlands. Also visit Melrose Abbey’s ruins and the Rosslyn Chapel.

Kelso is a market town and civil parish. The main tourist attractions are the ruined Kelso Abbey and Floors Castle.

Sir William Wallace was a landowner who became the main leader during the Wars of Scottish Independence. He defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in September 1297. Later defeated and in the end captured he was turned over to the King of England, who had him hanged, drawn, and quartered. Wallace has since become the symbol of Scottish nationalism through literature and movies from the 15th-century epic poem The Wallace, by Blind Harry to Holliwood's Braveheart.

St Mary's Abbey, is a ruined monastery in Melrose founded in 12th century by Cistercian monks, built in the Gothic manner and in the form of a St. John's cross. Alexander II and other Scottish kings are buried here. On one of the stairways one inscription reads Be halde to ye hende (''Keep in mind, the end, your salvation'').
