Il programma nel dettaglio
This beguiling walking tour will take you on an inspiring journey into Kyoto’s past as you discover stunning historical and architectural gems. Your itinerary includes a tour of the principal temples and shrines as well as leading you through the enchanting Geisha Quarter.
Formerly Japan’s capital, time has stood still in Kyoto for more than 1,000 years and the historical quarter is a treasure trove of beautiful temples, parks and perfectly manicured gardens. Begin with a visit to the Kiyomizu Temple, whose main hall sits upon a steep slope and features a traditional wooden platform supported by pillars. From this privileged vantage point you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas over the rooftops of Kyoto.
As your tour continues we will take you to the The Kodai-ji Temple. Located at the foot of the Higashiyama Ryozen Mountains, it was built by the widow of a 16th century general Toyotomi Hideyoshi to commemorate him. We will then guide you to Kyoto’s famous Yasaka shrine, dedicated to the god of prosperity and good health. It is well known for hosting the Gion-Matsuri Festival, one of Japan’s biggest festivals, held each summer.
As the sun starts its farewell journey and the lamps flicker on at dusk, it is the perfect moment to wander through the narrow alleyways of the atmospheric Gion District. This area is renowned for its entertainment and geishas, and has retained a tranquil, old-fashioned charm. As you stroll past inviting restaurants and traditional teahouses keep an eye out for a serene geisha hostess making her way to her next appointment.
