Follow in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone with a day at Oasys Park. Located in Tabernas, Europe’s only desert, this former film set where many famous spaghetti westerns were shot has been transformed into the most original leisure park in the Mediterranean, with live shows recreating life in the old Wild West.

The park also contains a small zoo and nature reserve, containing more than 150 animal species from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas in their natural habitat. Wild West shows are hosted daily. There is also a small museum housing camera equipment, projectors and memorabilia. Escape from the heat with a cold beer and a snack at the Saloon as you watch a can-can show. And when you’ve seen enough of the Wild West, you can take some time out and have a refreshing dip in the pool. The zoo and nature reserve is also well worth a visit.

You shouldn’t miss a trip aboard the new “Bear2Bear” train from which it is possible to observe animals in their natural habitat. Other attractions include the Museum of Animal Footprints, a reptile enclosure a crocodile pond, an aviary with exotic birds and a children’s zoo, making for a great day out for all the family. The zoo is spread out over quite a large area so be prepared for some walking or catch the train. Remember you are in a desert and, especially in the summer months, it can get very hot so don’t forget the sun block. Start/opening time: 10am.
