Cross the Straits of Gibraltar on a voyage of discovery and enjoy a glimpse of life in another continent with this day trip Morocco. Visit the historic cities of Tetouan and Tangier, while passing through the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. You will enjoy guided tours and free time as well as lunch at a traditional Moroccan restaurant.
The tour proper begins once have crossed the border from Ceuta to Morocco and head to Tetouan, a city that as recently as 1956 was part of a Spanish protectorate. There is still the odd reminder of these links. Set amid orange and almond groves, this ancient town provides an ideal combination of old and new. Visit Hassan II Square, the impressive royal palace, the old Jewish Quarter, the
Mellah, and the old walled Medina, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. A noon lunch in a traditional Moroccan restaurant will be enlivened with folk music. After lunch, continue on to Tangier, which was also controlled by Spain until 1956. Explore the modern city with is wide boulevards, sophisticated cafés and exclusive shops before diving into the Medina with its ancient souks. Mingle with the locals in
djellaba as you wander the narrow alleyways filled with cubbyhole shops, bakeries and tailors – it’s almost like stepping back to the Middle Ages.
