Il programma nel dettaglio
Immerse yourself in the ecosystems of northern Cambodia with this colourful full day tour from Siem Reap that takes in floating villages, a mangrove forest on a lake and the Prek Toal bird sanctuary, where you can see species such as storks, ibises, cormorants, pelicans and adjuncts.
Depart Siem Reap for picturesque lakeside village of Chong Khneas at the base of Phnom Krom, where you board a boat for a two-hour cruise through floating villages of Lake Tonle Sap and submerged forest. Experience an eerie sensation as the boat manoeuvres its way through the mangroves with just the murmur of the engine and the sounds of nature to be heard. Explore the floating villages, where residents live a way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries and is completely dependent on the lake. Wooden houses are built on stilts to protect them from the damp and there are also schools, libraries, markets, health centres and temples.
Visit the Gecko Environment Centre and learn about Lake Tonle Sap, the River Mekong and the way fishing communities live on the lake – and you also get to experience what it feels like to live in a floating house.
Continue on to the Prek Toal bird sanctuary and catch a sight of the more than 120 bird species here. From January to June, it is a breeding ground for dozens of species including storks, ibises, cormorants, pelicans and adjuncts though the best time to visit the sanctuary is from November to June. A picnic lunch will be served on site.
