Il programma nel dettaglio
Watch in wonderment as Carthusian horses perform in the very location where they have been bred for centuries. This visit to the historic Yeguada de la Cartuja stud farm at Hierro del Bocado, just outside of Jerez, includes a guided tour through the facilities before climaxing with a stunning demonstration of free running colts of different ages, of carriages, a ‘cobra’ of breeding mares, dressage and much more.
The Yeguada de la Cartuja is located on the grounds of a former Carthusian monastery where the monks began breeding horses in the 15th century. The baroque and Renaissance buildings offer a breathtaking backdrop to this sophisticated activity. The essential aim of the stud is to preserve the genetic heritage of this lineage and to contribute to the improvement of the Andalusian horse. The beauty and strength of the animals coupled with the stunning surrounding are some of the qualities that have given immense international prestige and local pride to this stud. See the stallion yard, the harness room and coach-houses and the mare barn. Watch a show in the covered ring for free-running colts, classical dressage and more.
On arrival, enjoy a reception before commencing your tour of facilities. See the central patio, the clinic and surgery room, the mare stall, the harness room, the carriages and more. About an hour later, admire the awe-inspiring exhibition of horsemanship in the main arena, gasp at the elegance of the dressage, the free-running colts and more.
Meeting point: Carretara Medina-El Portal km 6,5, Jerez de la Frontera.
Start/opening time: The exhibition programme starts saturdays at 11am.
