Experience the variety of Dutch food and snacks during this private food tour through Amsterdam. Get to know the Dutch cuisine and its origin on this 3 hour walking tour and try various delicious snacks along the way.
Your tour will start at the high blue “entrance gate” of the market, besides the Van Woustraat 12. Stroll with your private guide along the Albert Cuyp Market, the best place to discover what the locals like to eat!. Here you will get to see how our delicious Poffertjes (little Dutch pancakes) and our famous Stroopwafels (Syrupwaffles) are made. Enjoy your guide’s stories about the origin of different food traditions. For instance, did you know that many Dutch put this cookie on their cup of coffee or tea to bring out the flavour!. As we continue the walk, hear about the famous Heineken Brewery and stroll along the pretty canals to dive into the 17th century old city center.
Your guide will tell you all about the story behind the many crooked houses and different gables. Of course, we will have a break at a fish-stand so you can try the famous herring with pickles and onions which cannot be missed, when talking about Dutch food. And no Dutch food tour is complete without our famous Gouda cheese, which your guide will make sure you get to try as well!.
From here you will continue the walk, you will pass by the flower market. Hear the story of the Tulip fever in the 17th century, when selling one bulb meant that you could buy yourself a pretty house along the canals you have just passed!!! A far cry from when, in the WO II, during the winter of ’44-’45 people had nothing else to eat but tulip bulbs and now there is even a company that makes vodka from bulbs!! Also, you will see the Munt Toren (mint tower), which was part of the old medieval city wall.
And last but not least, we will visit one of the many cafes in the city, where you can try jenever (Dutch gin) and bitterballen, which is a typical Dutch fried delicacy we like to serve as a snack when we are meeting with friends, to start our weekends.
