This morning tour is the perfect introduction to this beautiful city. Start by heading to the northeast of the city, as we stroll through Melbourne’s “Little Italy” filled with little cafes, terraced balconies and quaint boutiques, buzzing with life. This is the place where the famous café culture was born.
Moving on we’ll see the second oldest university in Australia, The University of Melbourne. Take note of how many of the campus buildings feature period architecture, look out for the Old Quadrangle and Baldwin Spencer buildings. Next find the Royal Exhibition Building, one of the world’s oldest remaining exhibition pavilions. Admire its expansive galleries, the great dome and its immaculately restored interior.
Enjoy the perfect photo opportunity in front of St Patrick’s Cathedral, the tallest and largest church building in Australia. Made of bluestone and limestone, this Gothic-revival architecture is really quite stunning.
Leave the rush of the city and take a peaceful walk through Fitzroy Gardens, 26 hectares of lush green grass, a beautiful collection of trees, plants and wildlife. These gardens still hold onto its Victorian era roots and creates a spectacular landscape.
Now time for everyone’s favourite, a guided walk through the best of Melbourne’s arcades and laneways. These are the home to the life and soul of everyday city life in Melbourne. Should you wish to sit down, enjoy a coffee and people watch, this would be the ideal place to do so.
