The Bhaja caves, dating back to 200 BC! Among the oldest cave formations in the region, there are a total of 18 caves. Ten of these caves are viharas, with open prayer hall containing a stupa. Examine the interesting carvings on the walls and the wooden beams on the roof.
Then, we head out to the Karla Cave located opposite the Bhaja Caves. The caves are a brilliant example of Buddhist architecture. Among the most impressive caves, they have the biggest and oldest chaitya in India dating back to 80 BC! The prayer hall has several intricately designed figures of humans, animals and Gautama Buddha.
We wind down at the Bedse Caves, also called the Bedsa Caves, dating back to the 1st century BC. There are two caves in this rock formation - Chaitya and Vihara. The Chaitya is larger compared to the Vihara or the monastery. There are fascinating carvings on the walls with a quaint stupa outside the main caves.
