This residential area is filled with quaint cafés and restaurants, as well as little shops, all of which are but the modern façade of this area that dates back to 1670.
Formerly the border of Hamburg, it was a very accepting community and thus developed an important Jewish community, the first of the city of Hamburg. It later became a famous labour quarter and saw the rise of various unionists. All this lasted, of course, until the rise of Nazism. On this tour you will learn all the details behind this fascinating story and learn the anecdotes that lie behind the district’s most beautiful buildings.
