Sightseeing tour of Rhodes
Morning tour of the capital Rhodes, the city of the Knights of St. John. Walk through the old town, which is surrounded by a 4 km long ring of walls, through the Knights' Street to the imposing building of the Grand Master's Palace (exterior visit). Visit to the Archaeological Museum, which exhibits works of art from the Mycenaean to the late Hellenistic period, and visit to the Acropolis on Monte Smith. Return to the hotel, the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 3:
Boat trip Simi
Today's excursion begins with a boat trip to the picturesque rocky island of Simi. The pretty mansions in the harbor bay of Gialòs with their neoclassical façades, lying in tiers on the hillside, create the backdrop of an amphitheater. Walk through the main town of Simi and visit the medieval knight's castle. Then drive to the Panormitis pilgrimage monastery in the far south of the island, which is dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel. Return to Rhodes by boat in the evening.
Day 4:
Filerimos Monastery - Ialisos - Butterfly Valley
Today's first stop is the monastery of Filérimos on the mountain of the same name and the ruins of the ancient Doric city of Ialisos. Continue to Kamiros and visit the smallest of the three Doric cities, which Homer praises in the Iliad as "the rich in clay". Then drive to the green idyll of the famous Butterfly Valley. Although butterflies can only be seen here in July and August, a walk through the one-kilometre-long, deep green, romantic valley is a natural experience in other months too. Return to the hotel.
