This luxury hotel was first mentioned in a document dated 1542 and was always a popular haunt amongst politicians, artists and intellectuals. Famous artists such as Goethe, Schiller and J.S. Bach, all of whom were regular visitors, contributed to its reputation and made it the social and cultural heart of the city by the 17th century. The excellent location of the hotel, directly on the historic marketplace of the city, makes visiting the many well-known sights such as the Goethe house, the German National Theatre or the Bauhaus Museum easy.
