Famous for its beautiful towers, the Curtea de Arges monastery has a dark story behind it. It is also the place where Romanian kings are buried. Your guide will tell you all the legends and the true history of this place. The next stop on the way to Transfagarasan will be the Poenari fortress.



Poenari fortress, the ruins of Vlad the Impaler’s castle, stands on the top of the mountain as a guard of the Transfagarasan. It is considered the real castle of Dracula. The view from the castle is spectacular, but to get there you must climb 1400 stairs. Sometimes the fortress is closed for visits because of the bears around, but you can admire it from the road.



Once you have passed Poenari fortress you are on Transfagarasan road. Before seeing its tight curves and enjoying the amazing landscape, stop for a moment on the Vidraru dam. If you are afraid of heights don’t look down, look up and admire the lake. Transfagarasan road trip will continue with the most beautiful road in the world, so prepare your camera for it!



For lunch, we will stop at the top of Transfagarasan, in Balea Lac chalet, next to Balea glacier lake. From there you can see Transylvania at your feet.
