Day 1 - Cuernavaca and Taxco
The first day is a beautiful drive through the mountains and piney forests for tours in Cuernavaca and Taxco. Cuernavaca, 50 miles from Mexico City, is known as the City of Eternal Spring, famous for its rose growing, cathedral, and museums. It is a popular city for maintaining a second home away from Mexico City. A visit to the Cathedral of the Assumption, built in the 1600s, is the highlight of this stop.
From Cuernavaca, the tour continues to the city of Taxco, a former silver mining town high in the mountains. The shops are filled with beautiful silver jewelry, trays, tea sets, and decorative items. The tour includes the star of Taxco-- the Church de Santa Prisca, built in the 18th century, which has 123 tons of decorative gold leaf and beautiful murals; Also visit a unique Silver mine where you can learn the silver extraction processes.
Outside of the church is a wonderful market filled with stalls selling all manner of things. Taxco is famous for food such as pozole, barbequed goat, and a local dish of thin marinated strips of beef. Stay overnight in a Taxco hotel, the cost of which is not included in the tour price. Meals are on your own.
Day 2 - Relax and Enjoy Taxco
Relax in the morning and explore in your own time your day in the romantic city of Taxco which will charm you with its cobblestone lanes and colonial facades. At 5 pm we will meet to go back to Mexico City.
