A relaxed but complete tour for discovering Genoa, a city nestled between the moun-tains and sea.
Within its walls, this ancient maritime Republic contains wonderful testimonies to its glorious past as well as bold and modern works.
Walk through the grandest historical centre in Europe, let yourself be guided through the "caruggi", the typical narrow streets of the ancient city.
You start from Piazza De Ferrari, with the Carlo Felice Opera House. Within walking distance are the Ducal Palace, the former seat of the city government, and the Chiesa del Gesù, a rich Baroque church.
A short distance away is the medieval Porta Soprana, Columbus's house and the ca-thedral, a splendid Romanesque and Gothic church where tradition has it that the Holy Grail is still preserved. In the surrounding area, you can discover San Matteo, a typical example of a Genoese patrician residence which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The tour wraps up at Palazzo San Giorgio where it is said its illustrious prisoner, Marco Polo, dictated his famous book "The Travels of Marco Polo".
