Be guided through the horrors of recent history and walked around the medieval fortress that was built by the Habsburg monarchy in the late 18th century at the banks of the Ohre River. Visit the barracks, patios and other rooms of the camp that were transformed by the Nazis. Learn about the daily life and the hardship of the unfortunate prisoners that were held here.
Find out about the life of Gavrilo Princip, probably the most famous prisoner of the fortress. Get to know about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and how it led to World War I. Visit his cell and hear the harsh conditions under which he was held from the official local guide.
Explore the rest of the small town and wander through the moving Ghetto Museum and the intriguing Magdeburg Museum. Find here daily objects that prisoners have used during their imprisonment.
