Stop at Casas Colgadas, Cuenca, Province of Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha.

The most well-known tourist attraction of the city is the Hanging Houses, an example of typical architecture in Cuenca, where the balconies invite you to simply observe the abyss. They have become the watchword and signal of the city. Other example of this local architecture are the Skyscrapers of San Martin, the first ten-floor buildings of the world.

Stop At: Puente de San Pablo (Saint Paul Bridge), Cuenca, Province of Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha

Saint Paul Bridge, designed by the Eiffel school, proposes a nice walk for the audacious and an adventure for the vertiginous, but everyone feels that they are located in one of the best sites in the city. The visitors have a similar feeling at the Castle District, where they can have an experience full of emotions looking towards the deep gorges from its viewpoints.

Stop at Catedral De Cuenca, Cuenca, Province of Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha

The most impressive building in the city, Nuestra Señora de Gracia Cathedral, is the first gothic monument built in Spain by order of Alfonso VIII. His wife, Leonor de Aquitania y Plantagenet, whose brother was Richard the Lionheart, introduced the new Gothic style in the cathedral’s architecture. The building is considered the first gothic cathedral in Castile and was consecrated to Saint Mary in 1208. Inside the temple, light effects reflected through the stained glass lead the visitor into a mystical tour that goes from the twelfth century to the Baroque style period.

The Cathedral’s viewing is complemented by the striking view from the clerestory. A tiny spiral staircase leads the visitor up to the cathedral’s ceiling. You will be impressed by the amazing views of the cathedral from there, a singular spectacle that allows you to appreciate each detail and corner of this house of worship. From the heights, you will be surprised by the Main Square scene, where one can appreciate not only the historical city centre but also the panoramic view of the new city and the Jucar River’s meanders.

Stop at Museo de Arte Abstracto Espanol, Cuenca, Province of Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha

Inside the emblematic Hanging Houses, we will find one of the most significant art exhibitions from the middle 20th century: The Museum of Abstract Art. This museum showcases hundreds of pictures and sculptures from the abstract generation of the fifties and the sixties, which continues, in a certain way, the innovative ideas of Picasso, Miró, and Gris. One can enjoy Artworks made by Canogar, Chillida, Feito, Millares, Oteiza, Tapies, Torner and Zóbel.
