Program details

Learn more about the history and culture of the Veracruz region on this full-day tour taking in the beautiful town of Tlacotalpan, with its fusion of Caribbean and Spanish styles, and the down-to-earth fishing port of Alvarado.

After being picked up from your hotel between 08:45 and 09:15, we'll head straight for Alvarado, once a slaving port and now an important centre for fishing; in fact you shouldn't leave without trying some of its renowned seafood. Next stop is Tlacotalpan, a Unesco World Heritage Site and an important centre for the region's folklore and culture. It was here that the Son Jarocho, a regional folk musical style was born and it was also the birthplace of Agustin Lara, the famous Mexican singer and songwriter. Here we'll visit the local museum, with its stunning collection of traditional and colonial-era handicrafts, clothing and furnishings as well as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, the patron saint of the town, with its colourful murals and altarpiece.

We'll also visit the magnificent Netzahualcoyotl theatre and the Paploapan River, also known as the River of the Butterflies.

Then we'll head back to the resort where we will arrive at about 4pm.
