Program details
This unspoilt medieval city has recently undergone extensive urban regeneration attracting many artists and quirky shops, bar and restaurants to the area around the old docklands. It is also an important diamond trading centre.
After leaving Brussels, we drive north through Brabant heading for Antwerp, Belgium's second city. Our guided tour takes us from Het Steen, an impressive medieval fortress built to protect the city and its port. Visit the Great Market Square and see the gothic style houses that were once the headquarters of the medieval guilds.
While here you will also visit the Cathedral of Our Lady, one of the most impressive and largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe: built in 1351 it stands over 400 ft tall. It also houses some of Rubens' most famous paintings. We pass by the famous MAS Museum located along the River Scheldt and visit the incredible Antwerp Central Train Station, regarded as one of the finest examples of railway architecture.
