Curitiba, Brazil |
‘Make yourself at home’ in Brazil’s city with a big heart, Curitiba and discover its key sights. Enjoy a trip round the city with our knowledgeable guides as they take you to the top sights of this attractive and verdant city in Brazil’s sultry south.
Begin by spending some time in Tiradentes Square. Oozing historical heritage, this is where the city was founded back in the 17th century and is dominated by the 19th century Cathedral, the Basilica Menor de Nossa Senora da Luz de Curitiba. We will then show you the intricate art nouveau style Paco da Liberdade. This elegant former government building and museum is now once again a public space that is used as an important cultural centre. As your tour continues you will have the chance to visit some more of Curitiba’s important buildings, the very first university in Brazil, Federal University of Paraná, and the Guaira Theature. From here we will meander through the sun-dappled pedestrianized streets past enticing boutiques and souvenir shops before stopping at the Oscar Niemeyer museum. For any photography enthusiast this is a must-see and its striking ‘eye-shaped’ architecture is a sight to behold. It was designed by the renowned Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer, who is considered one of the world’s leading architects. Just next door you can take a break by visiting the Pope’s Woods, one of Curitiba’s most popular parks and a Polish memorial site built to honour the Pope John Paul II. As you amble through the rolling parkland, you can stop to savour a delicious Polish cake and coffee. Curitibia is known for its wide open green spaces. We will conclude our tour at the beautiful botanical gardens, which feature the Wire Opera House, as well as walk through Tangua Park and Tingui Park.
