Program details
On the Half Day Hyderabad Sightseeing Tour, you will explore the very best of Hyderabad. Visit all the main sights and attractions, including the imposing Charminar – the ultimate symbol of the city – the majestic Mecca Mosque and the Salar Jung Museum as well as seeing landmarks such as the Andhra Pradesh High Court and State Assembly buildings.
This tour has everything: culture, history, art and architecture. Begin your Hyderabad odyssey at the Chaminar, the rectangular, four-arched monumental gate that was built in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah to commemorate the elimination of a plague epidemic from the city. Chaminar means ‘four towers’, a named derived from the beautifully ornate minarets that rise 56 metres above the streets. Continue to the Mecca Masjid just a short walk away from the Charminar. It is one of the largest mosques in India and the main hall holds as many 10,000 worshippers. The level of craftsmanship is simply breath-taking: the three arched façades were carved from a single piece of granite, which took five years to quarry. Also visit the Salar Jung Museum, which houses the collection of Nawab Salar Jung III as well as a magnificent variety of European and Indian paintings and statues. Of special interest is the fabulous Koran collection and the Jade Room containing priceless objects, which belonged to ancient Indian rulers like Aurangazeb, Tipu Sultan, Shah Jahan and the Asaf Jahs of Hyderabad.
Later drive past the Andhra Pradesh High Court and State Assembly buildings, two fine examples of Indo-Saracenic revival architecture.
