Program details

This superb tour encompasses a whole swathe of Portugal’s most impressive landscapes, from the historic centre of the capital to the romantic architecture of one of its best-preserved royal towns and the dramatic scenery of its wild Atlantic coast.

See some of the finest examples of Portuguese architecture in the magnificent city of Lisbon. Beginning with a visit to the historic district of Belem, site of the stunning Jeronimos Monastery, discover the place where Vasco Da Gama famously set off to explore the new world. The monastery itself offers a remarkably well-preserved example of Portuguese religious architecture, with its elegant cloisters and rich carvings.

Head to the Baixa, the city’s downtown, with its principal thoroughfares such as Avenida da Liberdade and Marques de Pombal Square and, finally, to Alfama, the city’s oldest quarter.

In the afternoon, head to Sintra, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and visit the National Palace, with the price of admission included in the tour. Sintra is famous for its beautifully preserved 19th century romantic architecture and landscapes. It boasts the National Palace, the finest medieval royal palace in Portugal, and features scores of castles, estates and interesting retreats.

Then continue along the coast and drive by Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of continental Europe, and on to Guincho, Cascais, a beautiful seaside resort, and Estoril before returning to Lisbon.
