Program details
Doi Tung is the highest peak on the Thai-Burmese border area where we visit Lahu and Akha hilltribe villages. Doi Tung became the home of HRH the Princess Mother, the Mother of HM the King. After spending much of her life in Switzerland, she loved the cool mountain air of Chiang Rai, and built her Palace in the form of a Swiss Chalet. You will be able to see some of the Palace and much of it has been left, as it was when she passed away. The Palace gardens, full of blooms and plants not found anywhere else in Thailand, are beautiful and spectacular. The much revered and much missed Princess Mother did much to help the local villagers in the area, establishing many Royal Projects in the mountain villages nearby. We will also visit the twin Chedis of the Doi Tung Temple, and then continue to the border town of Mae Sai where there is time to explore the interesting markets.
