Begin your adventure with a visit to the Taj Mahal, the jewel in Agra’s – and India’s – crown. The Taj Mahal is the epitome of love, a poem written in marble by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahanfor his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. This majestic mausoleum is made entirely of white marble and its walls are decorated with exquisite
pietradura (stone inlay). Rare and precious stones were used in the intricate inlay work of the interiors.
Continue to Agra Fort, which has stood on this site for a thousand years and was the seat and the stronghold of the Mughal Empire. This vast riverside complex boasts a collection of palaces, pavilions and mosques so great that it has been declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The tour ends with a visit to the Mausoleum of of I'timad-ud-Daulah, which is popularly known as the ‘Baby Taj’ despite being a few years older that the Taj Mahal. It was built by Empress Noor Jahan in memory of her father. Like the Taj, its walls are white marble encrusted with precious stone and the grounds are set in the Charbagh (four gardens) style, divided equally by water channels and walkways.
