Immerse yourself in grandeur for a day spent touring the stunning Palace of Versailles. With lunch provided in La Petite Venise restaurant near the Grand Canal and a guided visit to the Petit and the Grand Trianon followed by Queen Marie-Antoinette’s Hamlet and gardens, this is a wonderful exploration into French social, cultural and architectural history.
A captivating guided tour reveals the history of the majestic Versailles Palace. Combining classic and baroque architectural styles, the palace has been on the World Heritage list for 30 years. You'll instantly feel the pomp and ceremony of King Louis XIV's court as you peruse the Hall of Mirrors, Grand Apartments and French gardens designed by Le Notre.
The apartments at Versailles are universally accepted as a symbol of the final flourish of monarchical indulgence before the upheaval of the French Revolution. Despite the ravages of wars and revolutions, there are an astonishing number of vestiges of the lavish style of King Louis XIV that remain, as well as the varied tastes of the succeeding Kings, Louis XV and Louis XVI.
A truly glorious place to spend a day being inspired by ornate architecture, decoration and furnishings of a time long past but certainly not forgotten.
