Program details
Join us for this fascinating excursion offering a behind the scenes glimpse into the secrets of German success in beer production at the Paulaner brewery. Meet your guide in central Munich and then head by coach to the Paulaner brewery, which produces one of Germany’s best-selling beers and is an established favourite at Munich’s legendary Oktoberfest. When you arrive, meet expert brewers who will tell you all about Paulaner’s history of brewing and about Germany’s beer culture.
The brewery was originally established by an order of friars in the 17th century who gave away beer to the poor and it is just as popular with the locals to this day, with a range of 14 varieties from wheat beer to lager to ale. Learn how the beer is brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law dating all the way back to 1516 and one of the oldest laws of its kind in the world. The regulation ensures that barley, hops, water and yeast are the only ingredients used in making beer – no additives, no artificial chemicals or flavourings allowed.
Take a guided tour of the brewery to see the malting towers, brewhouse, fermenting tanks, beer cellars and wells. Then after hearing so much about the beer you’ll finally get a chance to taste the prized beverage itself. While sampling your glass of Paulaner you’ll also enjoy a fresh Bavarian pretzel.
There is no better way to appreciate the central role of beer in Bavarian culture than the to visit the place where it is made while sampling the product at source.
