Program details
Spain old and new come to life with this exciting two-city day tour of the former and current capitals of the country. In the morning, visit historic Toledo just an hour south of Madrid and in the afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of the modern metropolis. Admire palaces, churches and parks, and wonder at medieval majesty, Gothic grandeur, baroque brilliance and Renaissance intelligence with this memorable excursion.
Situated on a steep bend in the River Tagus, Toledo was twice the capital, an honour that has bequeathed a cultural and architectural legacy that has earned it the status of Unesco World Heritage Site. See buildings from almost all periods of Spanish history: Moorish, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, Habsburg and Baroque. See the glorious Gothic cathedral, wander the cobbled alleys, where time seems to have stood still, while following in the footsteps of the great master, El Greco. See the imposing Alcazar fortress, the imperial gateway to the city and much, much more.
Back in Madrid, the panoramic tour travels through the ages, from the city's origins as an Arab fortress to the modern boulevards of its sophisticated districts. Drive through the courtly Madrid of the Habsburgs, with its great Renaissance and baroque buildings. Visit the Madrid of the Bourbon monarchs with its great fountains and vast royal palace. Discover the commercial and financial areas of contemporary city and head to the legendary Las Ventas bullring and the world-famous Santiago Bernabeu football stadium, home to Real Madrid.
