Program details
Believe your own eyes. His Holiness Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) is standing in front of you, as you receive his blessing. This Pope, the first Argentinian to be elected to the Bisphoric of Rome, is said to welcome dialogue with all religions.
No matter whatever persuasion, you cannot fail to be enthralled with a visit to this weekly spiritual event which means so much to billions of people.
Here you are in the Holy See, The Vatican City, smallest sovereign state in the world with pilgrims who have traveled from the far corners of the earth to see and hear the holy father.
- Your guided tour has been designed to give you privileged access providing a more comfortable and relaxing experience.
- Become acquainted with St Peters Square created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the 17th century. In his own words a design intended to create 'The motherly arms of the church reaching out to embrace the faithful'. St Peter is buried here in this square, the only person from biblical times whose grave can be venerated
- Marvel at the Egyptian obelisk in front of the Basilica standing at 82 feet (25 m) tall and weighing in at more than 331 tons. The Romans were certainly keen on collecting obelisks, although their acquisition, transportation and erection caused many a brow to furrow.
- Uncover the fascinating history of the Papacy. According to Catholic doctrine, popes are successors to St Peter and from his time to this day the Papacy provides perhaps the greatest documented insight to the life and times of the last two thousand years.
