Join us on this engrossing tour of the Vatican Museums, a complex of different museums and galleries standing in the shadow of St Peter’s basilica.
Visit the wide ranging collection of archaeological finds, sculptures and artworks whose origins lie in the 16th century sculptures collected by Pope Julius II. See the collection of beautiful 15th to 17th century tapestries in the Gallery of Tapestries, examples of artistic and cultural history from some of the world’s most influential civilizations and a fascinating collection of modern and contemporary religious art.
Move on to the Sistine Chapel, named after Pope Sixtus IV, to see the wonderful frescoes and the chapel ceiling, considered to be Michelangelo’s finest work.
Complete the tour with a visit to ancient Rome, to see some of the city’s world renowned archaeological marvels including the Colosseum, the Roman Empire’s largest – and perhaps bloodiest! - amphitheatre. Admire the splendid triumphal Arch of Constantine, climb the Palatine hill and walk on the via Sacra or Sacred Way, one of the main streets of ancient Rome and the setting for some of her greatest triumphs as well as scenes from everyday Roman life. Make the most of this absorbing tour lead by expert guides passionate about their subject.
