With this tour you’ll be able to visit the major Christian sights of this ancient city as you venture into the underground cemeteries and hiding places of the Christians.
Begin the tour with a
visit to the Scala Sancta, the holy staircase, a place which has attracted Christian pilgrims for centuries who wish to worship the Passion of Jesus. These marble stairs are a fascinating tourist spot and one definitely worth seeing! Afterwards, visit the Archbasilica of St John Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome. Explore the Cathedral and the art which lies within the magnificent architecture of this beautiful building. There are also papal tombs within the Basilica, which are available for viewing.
Proceed down the ancient Appian Way, passing the marvellous chapel of Domine Quo Vadis, before arriving at the Catacombs of Rome. Travel through these fascinating catacombs, the ancient underground cemeteries used by Christians when land was scarce. See the burial sites which have been there since the 2nd Century AD and have survived all of this time.
This tour is for those who are interesting in the history and the culture of Rome, particularly during the time of the
Roman era and the Renaissance period, and is a fascinating insight into the Christian way of life which has survived for nearly two thousand years.
