Program details
Journey back in time and visit three of the main archaeological sites in Turkey: Priene, Didyma and Miletos.
Priene was established in 350BC, when it became Alexander the Great’s favourite place of residence. Athena’s Temple, the Parliament Building, the Fish Market, the Theatre and the city walls, are some of the attractions of the site.
Didyma was the main centre for the cult of Apollo, the Greek god of divination, where priests used sacrifices and other methods to interpret the god’s will. The Temple’s dimensions alone (118x60m, slightly more than a football field) would have filled ancient pilgrims with awe, just as they still impress today’s visitors.
Miletos is known as the Hometown of the Olympic Games; the symbol of the Games, a tripod with a flame, originates from the Miletos harbour lighthouse. The town was one of the largest of ancient cities and the birthplace of the alphabet and famous philosophers including the great town planner Hippodomus, father of the grid city plan. The tour will take you to the Theatre, where St Paul gave his emotional address to Ephesus’ elders, then to the Faustina Baths, the Harbour Monument and the Ilyas Bey Mosque.
The tour includes transfers, air-conditioned transportation, lunch and a buffet breakfast enjoying scenic views over Bafa Lake, and all entrance fees, service charges and taxes.
Tours Depart at 8.30am and return 6.00pm.
Please note that museums are closed on Mondays. In the event of museum closures, an alternative will be offered. The itinerary involves a good deal of walking, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
Meeting/pick-up point: Hotel pick-up.
