Program details
Sail with us to the Lone Pine Sanctuary, the world's first and largest koala conservation area, and home to more than 130 bears. Cuddle a koala, hand-feed kangaroos and encounter a large variety of indigenous wildlife, all in beautiful and natural settings. This is the ultimate Australian experience that is conveniently located in the leafy south Brisbane suburbs.
The journey to the sanctuary is an experience in itself – the river boat cruise takes you 19km (12 miles) upstream through some of the city's most attractive suburbs and most interesting wildlife habitats. You will even have an opportunity to get a close-up view of an inner-city colony of fruit bats along the way before arriving at Lone Pine, which is situated on the pocket of a bend on the River Brisbane. A full commentary is provided en route, allowing you to learn all about this beautiful area and the wonderful animals that are sheltered at the sanctuary.
As well as koalas, at Lone Pine, you will also be able to meet kangaroos, emus, Tasmanian devils, wombats, lorikeets, spiny anteaters, reptiles and platypus. The Lone Pine Sanctuary has been ranked as one of the world’s top 10 zoos such is its offering. This is a rare opportunity to observe many of the animals that are endemic to Australia and make it such a unique place.
