Program details
Bring the history of the Alhambra to life with a guided tour through the palace complex. This magical city also has a lot more to offer: visit the monuments built by the Catholic conquerors in the city centre and explore two of Granada’s most charismatic neighbourhoods, El Albaicin and Sacromonte.
HIGHLIGHTS:
* Enjoy a guided tour of the Alhambra
* Visit the Cathedral and Royal Chapel
* Stroll through two of the city’s most charming neighbourhoods
Located on a hilltop overlooking the city,
the Alhambra holds a formidable presence over Granada. Your expert guide will show you around the old fortress, known as La Alcazaba, the Royal Palace Complex with its Harem, the Court of the Myrtles with its large pond used for cooling the buildings in the summer heat, the magnificent Hall of the Ambassadors and the breathtakingly beautiful Court of the Lions and the Hall of the Abencerrajes. We also visit the Generalife Palace and Gardens, once used as a summer palace and retreat by the Nazrid emirs of Granada.
After visiting the Alhambra, we continue the tour to
two of the city’s most well-known landmarks: the magnificent Cathedral and Royal Chapel. Next we stroll around two of the city’s most charismatic neighbourhoods. El Albaicin is a Unesco World Heritage Site, retaining the
narrow winding streets of its medieval Moorish past, bright red geraniums cascading down whitewashed walls, the air scented by jasmine, lemon blossom and rose, the whole area dominated by the magnificent presence of the Alhambra. Finally we make the climb to Sacromonte, the Holy Mountain, where you can enjoy a drink in one of the neighbourhood’s famous caves.
