Hop aboard an elegant and comfortable river cruiser for an evening illumination sail between Cologne and Dusseldorf, as you calmly bob along the waters of the legendary River Rhine. Under night-time's haunting guise, Cologne (Germany's fourth-largest city) and Dusseldorf (the seventh-largest) both transform and their twinkling skylines shimmer in perfect harmony with the stars.

The glide by Cologne will give you a tempting insight into this metropolis' vibrant nightlife and animated lifestyle which after sunset hums with activity around their traditional, old-fashioned pubs. The stunning Gothic cathedral, which took more than 630 years to complete, radiates against the night sky.

On the other hand, Dusseldorf, although a relatively young city, will captivate you for the elegance of its old town and the buzz of the famous Konigsallee, the largest, trendiest and most luxurious shopping street.

All of this you will see while floating on the Rhine, a river shrouded in history and also legend –folklore tells that it is the very river from which a Nibelung (a sort of dwarf) stole the gold that can be made into a magic ring to rule the world, a story which inspired Richard Wagner's four-part opera The Ring of the Nibelung and, more recently, JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In Germany, history and folklore sail hand in hand over the Rhine.
