Head for stunning Anton Valley, a beautiful town located in the caldera of the dormant El Valle volcano, making this the world's only inhabited volcanic crater. Stop off at El Nispero zoo, where in a beautiful parklike setting you can meet colourful parrots, tropical frogs including the endangered golden frog, majestic jaguars, huge snakes and cheeky monkeys. If you want to feed the birds or monkeys you can buy bags of food at the entrance. Flower lovers can also visit the beautiful orchid conservation centre, where over 100 native local species are on display. There are also pre-Colombian petroglyphs and folk legends to discover.



Then head to El Chorro del Macho, the most famous waterfall in the area, which tumbles 85 metres into a pristine rainforest swimming pool that legend says is enchanted. Finally, visit a local craft market, where you can pick up carvings of jungle wildlife, beautiful decorative baskets and stunning mola blouses embroidered with colourful folk art motifs.
