Program details
Take a trip to another dimension and see far into the furthest reaches of the universe with this fascinating private visit of the magnificent Mamalluca Observatory. This is a tour that can be justly described as being light years removed from anything else you are likely to experience in Chile.
Sunset marks the beginning of this tour to the inner Elqui Valley as you pass through the town of San Isidro on the way to the Observatory. From this special place you will be able to see universe like never before. The observatory has a dome with an electronic telescope that allows you to enjoy a pleasant night of contemplation of the stars.
Some pictures will be displayed and at the same time an instructive presentation about the stars of the Southern Hemisphere will be given. This atmosphere will bring out the Galileo that is in you. After the presentation, we will engage in a nocturnal observation of stars, planets and galaxies. The southern hemisphere is ideal for astronomy, which is why four of the most advanced observatories are located in the mountain region of Coquimbo. Return to La Serena after having enjoyed two hours of astronomical immersion.
The Mamalluca Observatory has a telescope with a 30cm diameter donated by the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. Unlike most observation centres, where the general public does not usually have access to the instruments of observation, here tourists have the chance to stay at night and use the same equipment used by researchers.
Meeting/pick-up point: Collection from hotels.
Duration: Five hours.
Start/opening time: 7pm.
Languages: English, Portuguese, German and Spanish.
