At the summit of spectacular Haleakala, ‘the house of the sun’, visit the Puu Ulaula Overlook 300 metres (10,000ft) above the forest below. Far below you, scudding clouds, miles of lush tropical forests, and brilliant blue coastal waters make this view one of the world's most beautiful. Your friendly guide will fill you in on all the information about this ancient volcano that makes up more than 75% of the entire island. The head to the Iao Needle located in lush Iao Valley State Park, a vegetation-covered lava fragment rising 300 metres from the valley floor, giving it the traditional Hawaiian name ‘Cloud Supreme’. Explore this incredible valley, which looks like a landscape from Jurassic Park, before travelling on to Wailuku through the sugarcane fields to visit the picturesque white Kaahumanu Church.



Finally, enjoy some free time to stroll through old Lahaina, the whaling era capital of Hawaii where thousands of sailors passed through on their quest for whales, including Herman Melville, whose novel Moby Dick is the ultimate account of 19th-century whaling. Nowadays the town is full of art galleries, boutiques shops and restaurants, making it the ideal place to wind down your Maui adventure.
