Venture deep into the heart of the Western Sierra Madre Mountains and discover the fascinating Nombre de Dios cave system in this three hour fully-guided tour from Chihuahua. Explore underground tunnels with all sorts of weird and wonderful rock formations and then visit the impressive Quinta Carolina Estate, property of the powerful Creel-Terrazas family.
The Nombre de Dios Caves are situated to the north of the city and contain an impressive assortment of wonderful rock formations, including stalactites and stalagmites. Many of them have been named, let your guide point out the Dinosaur’s Head, Don Quixote and even the Leaning Tower of Pisa, among many other interesting and amusing shapes. Your guide will explain how these wonderful shapes were formed over hundreds of thousands of years ago.
After this fascinating underground experience we’ll make our way to the Quinta Carolina Estate, an old hacienda of great significance in the history of Chihuahua. The estate belonged to the powerful Creel-Terrazas family, supporters of President Porfirio Diaz, and played an important role during the Mexican Revolution. Though now in a semi-ruined state, the governments of the city and state of Chihuahua are beginning an extensive rehabilitation and restoration of the property. The estate was once completely outside the city and where there are now houses, once only ranch land, cultivated farmland and gardens surrounded the estate house, chapel and outbuildings. Your guide will bring history to life as you tour the grounds, outbuildings and main house of this massive hacienda.
