Program details
Explore amazing ecosystems, see endangered species in their natural habitat and learn how local people are working to protect the environment in this morning tour, visiting La Ventanilla, Tonameca Lagoon and Mazunte, home of the National Turtle Centre.
Head out of Huatulco on Highway 200 towards La Ventanilla, a small fishing village situated on the idyllic Oaxacan coast. Here, board a panga for a tour around Tonameca Lagoon, an extensive mangrove swamp where a wide variety of species can be found including woodpeckers, herons, iguanas, and a community of crocodiles. You'll get to see crocs of all ages including babies and learn all about these fascinating creatures at the local crocodile clinic where they're protected from hunters. Your expert guide will tell you all about this incredible ecosystem, and how local people are working for the conservation of the different species that make this area their home.
Next stop is the unspoilt village of Mazunte, renowned for its pristine beaches and as yet untouched by tourism. Here we'll visit a sustainable cosmetic factory producing creams, oils, shampoo and soaps from 100% natural raw materials. You will have the opportunity to do some shopping here before we continue to the National Turtle Centre, an organisation dedicated to protecting this species and its habitat. Before returning to Huatulco, we’ll make a quick stop at the coastal settlement of Puerto Angel where you can meet the local fishermen and if you’re lucky, even get to try some of their catch.
