Explore the historical centre of the magnificent city of Guanajuato with this four-hour walking tour and learn all about the fascinating history, culture and legends of this old colonial town. Your expert local guide will give you the lowdown of the fascinating history of this wonderful city as you tour all the main sights and landmarks.
The historic town centre of Guanajuato was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1988 and you'll see why as we stroll around narrow lanes, cobbled alleyways and famous underground streets. The area is packed with unique baroque and neo-classical architecture, with dozens of buildings dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
Some of the buildings you’ll see include the neo-classical Juarez Theatre, generally considered to be one of the most beautiful theatres in the country, the Convent of San Pedro de Alcantara, the 17th century Basilica of Guanajuato, the University, the Old City Hall and the massive Alhondiga de Granaditas, an old grain store that was the site of the first battle of the Mexican War of Independence. Also visit the Callejon del Beso (the Alley of the Kiss) where it is said that if lovers kiss on the third step, they are guaranteed seven years of happiness together.
