Montserrat has been the holiest shrine in Catalonia for more than a thousand years and over time, this mountain has become a mini-world of its own, housing not only a Benedictine Monastery and the famous Basilica but also a printing press and distillery among many other attractions. Montserrat Visita is a handy booklet of vouchers bringing together various services and discounts that will help you to plan and enjoy your visit all the better. You will also have use of an audio guide.
The booklet also gives you a choice on how to arrive at the monastery either by rack railway (Monistrol Montserrat station) or by cable car. If you do come by car, you will have free parking as long as you validate the ticket at the information bureau.
Once at the sanctuary itself, you will receive a 10% discount on the Sant Joan and Santa Cova funicular as well as the Salt Mountain Natural Park. There is plenty to visit here, too. The open-air museum, has over 100 natural, historical and cultural reference points and four different itineraries. There is also a fascinating museum housing priceless icons as well as works by artists such as Caravaggio, El Greco, Monet, Picasso and Dali.
A three-course meal with wine or water is also included and there are also spiritual delights of a different kind. You can indulge in some liqueur tasting at the Monastery’s distillery of drinks such as Aromes de Montserrat, Ratafia, Catalan Cream Liqueur and Hazelnut liqueur.
