How about a relaxing boat trip around the placid lake of Banyoles? Sit back and relax as you watch the beautiful scenery just drift by. Lake Banyoles is the largest lake in Catalunya and became famous as a rowing location for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. This unique environment was produced by a series of karstic and tectonic subsidence 250,000 years ago and is fed by underground rivers from the Alta Garrotxa in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
The trip aboard the Tirona takes around 40 minutes. The boat is powered by an electrical motors so there are no noisy engines to disturb the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful natural area. As we sail you’ll learn all about the myths and legends of the lake with a running commentary by our knowledgeable and friendly crew. Local villagers once believed that the lake was inhabited by a mysterious dragon and magical mermaids – and even today the lake still holds an otherworldly feel to it.
