Make the trek from Almeria to savour a true Granada legend with a visit to Restuarante Padilla in the quiet district of El Fargue. For decades it was a something of a hidden secret, frequented by locals in the know who wanted to keep a good thing to themselves. But its unbeatable location opposite the Sierra Nevada meant that the secret was bound to out.
Feast on the finest cuts of grilled meats straight from a wood oven while enjoying wonderful views of olive groves nestling in the shadow of the snowcapped Sierra Nevada. It’s an image that encapsulates the rugged beauty of the Andalusian landscape – one that has captured the hearts of artists and poets since time immemorial. The restaurant is feast of the senses, both visual and culinary. Restuarante Padilla is located off the beaten track close to the historic area of Sacromonte (the ‘holy mount’ famous for its cave dwellings) and the Moorish-era Albaicin district, which occupies a hill facing the Alhambra. This relative remoteness adds to the sense of exclusivity. After eating, you have the opportunity to visit the Abbey of Sacromonte, only three minutes away by car. The abbey, built on the site where St Cecil was martyred, boasts a majestic Mudejar nave and a refined Renaissance ceiling.
