A bustling and popular trading port for centuries, Essaouria truly announced itself to the western world when Orson Welles chose to film “Othello” in the town’s winding streets in 1949. Explore the fishing port, its medina and its many souks and open air markets selling everything from freshly caught fish to local craftwork before heading to the vineyards at the beautiful Val d’Argan nearby. There you will have the opportunity to taste the delicious local wine produced and a selection of tapas.



Wander the charming streets of its fishing port and stop at its vibrant fish market, where local fisherman animatedly compete with each other to sell their fresh catches. Take a walk along the elegant seafront and admire the rows of pretty blue and white seaside cottages which line the coastal streets.



Immerse yourself in the narrow and winding streets of Essaouira’s medina, a listed Unesco World Heritage Site and home to a myriad of lively and atmospheric souks and market stalls. Hunt for a bargain amongst the colourful mix of products on offer and remember that bartering and negotiating are a way of life here in the port that once served as the key trading route to Marrakech.



After a day of exploring, treat yourself to some of the finest wine in the whole of Morocco as you visit the stunning Val d’Argan. Only 20 minutes from Essaouira, this exquisite plot covers 35 hectares of land including sprawling vineyards, olive and argan trees. Sample the acclaimed local specialities and tuck into plenty of appetizing tapas.
