This magnificent work of medieval architecture is dramatically perched high up on a steep rock and seems to float magically above a carpet of lush green woods. It is truly a romantic setting enveloped by unspoiled landscape, inviting and majestic at the same time and a sight that will certainly take you on a flight of fancy. And what’s even more surprising: Castle Eltz has been the family home of the Lords and Counts of Eltz for more than thirty generations.
Catch your breath the moment you set foot inside this marvellous construction. The living and sleeping areas, the armoury and knights’ hall, the hunting room and kitchen… are but a few of the spaces you will visit and which have all been magnificently preserved and largely furnished with their original content. Feel like a member of royalty or a knight of old as you mosey from hall to hall.
Thanks to clever diplomacy, Castle Eltz has survived unharmed for centuries. The vault of the castle contains one of Europe’s foremost treasure chambers and is still filled with its famous collection of medieval goldsmith’s work, as well as countless other priceless works of art.
On our way back to Frankfurt, you will be able to relish a lovely dinner in a restaurant right by the riverbanks of the Rhine Valley, a truly romantic backdrop.
