Program details
This tour will take you to the city of San Bernardino, which is located by the famous Lake Ypacaraí. On this scenic tour you will also visit the cities of Luque, Aregua, Itaugua and Capiatá.
Travelling east from Asuncion, you reach the city of Luque. Established in 1636, Luque is renowned for its craftsmanship of guitars and Paraguayan harps as well as Filigranas, gold and silver filigree jewellery including the seven-band ring Carretón de Siete Ramales. Leaving Luque, and a further short drive through rolling hills and you reach the town of Aregua. The distinctive landmarks of this pretty colonial town are its beautiful Koi and Chororí Hills that provide its backdrop. The town is alos known for its craftsmanship in clay and the production of strawberries. The colonial architecture, largely preserved, along with its original cobble stone streets makes this small town a very quaint destination. Here one can find magnificent mansions, which are laid out as surrounding corridors enclosing a central courtyard which usually consists of a beautiful flowered garden.
The city is famous for its cobweb like lace, the Ñanduti weave, is Itaugua .Here you can buy the beautiful intricate lace as tablecloths, table covers and dresses or frame it and hang it on your wall. Listen to one of the locals proudly tell you of the legend of the Ñanduti. Reaching your destination, San Bernardino commonly known to the locals as Samber, you can enjoy this holiday location found on the shores of the lovely Ypacarai Lake. On the return trip you drop in to Capiatá with its pretty baroque church.
