Come and learn all about the history of the most traditional Canary Islands string instrument, the timple, at the Timple Museum in Teguise, Lanzarote's charming old capital. Even if you're not into music, Casa Spinola, the beautiful old palace that houses the museum is well worth a visit. In this building dating from the 18th Century, you'll find many traditional features and a beautiful courtyard area.
The timple is a traditional five-stringed musical instrument in use in the Canary Islands since the 18th Century. In this fascinating museum you will find many fine instruments, exquisitely crafted by local craftsmen over the last three centuries. You will learn how to appreciate different styles of handiwork in over 50 displays of timple spread out in three different exhibition spaces.
The Timple Museum is located in the centre of the old town of Teguise in Casa Spinola, a beautiful old palace dating from the 18th Century. Even if you're not interested in music, you will appreciate the many traditional features of this fine building, including cool stone-flagged floors, exquisitely carved wooden ceilings, a water cistern and a beautiful courtyard area.
Start or opening time: Monday - Saturdays at 9am. Sundays 9:30am.
End or closing time: Monday - Saturday at 4:30pm, Sundays at 3:30pm.
